What Naturopathy Is
Naturopathic doctors are primary-care-style practitioners who work across diet, lifestyle, supplements and botanical medicine, and who can order laboratory testing. In British Columbia their scope is broader than in many provinces, and it includes prescribing rights within defined limits.
The defining feature is appointment length. A first visit is usually an hour or more of history-taking that covers a lot of ground, which is often why people book one in the first place — and also why the schedule is less flexible than at a physiotherapy or chiropractic clinic.
What a Session Looks Like
Initial visits 60–90 minutes; follow-ups 30–45
Bring any recent lab work and a list of everything you currently take, including supplements. The first visit is mostly conversation and review; a plan usually arrives at the end of it or at the first follow-up once results are back. Expect the plan to be revisited rather than issued once.
Common Reasons People Book
- Digestive concerns
- Fatigue and sleep problems
- Hormonal and cycle-related concerns
- Skin conditions
- Wanting a longer appointment than a walk-in allows
- Care coordinated alongside a family doctor rather than replacing one
