What Kinesiology Is
Kinesiologists work in exercise and movement: assessing how you move and load, then programming and coaching the work that rebuilds strength and function. Much of the appointment is spent actually training rather than being treated.
It's easy to confuse with two neighbours. Physiotherapy leads with assessment and diagnosis of an injury; personal training leads with fitness goals. Kinesiology sits between them — often picking up where a physiotherapy plan ends, and frequently the discipline delivering active rehabilitation on ICBC and WorkSafeBC claims.
What a Session Looks Like
Typically 45–60 minutes
The first appointment is usually a movement and capacity assessment; after that, sessions are working sessions in a gym space. Wear training clothes and shoes. Expect to leave with a programme you continue on your own, and expect it to be progressed as you improve rather than left alone.
Common Reasons People Book
- Active rehabilitation after an injury or a claim
- Returning to training after a long gap
- Building strength around a joint that keeps giving trouble
- Workplace and ergonomic assessment
- Coached exercise with a clinical rather than aesthetic focus
